A selection of original short stories by the author featuring ghostly tales most with life lessons intended for teens and adults. I have held on to this collection of short stories for quite some time. My original intent was to do a Christmas book with a Christmas Carol sequel as the centerpiece. The problem is that in the space of time since I first had the idea in the late 1990s, there have been several authors that have done work along these lines. The books and plays I have glanced through, however, don't really duplicate the plot path I want to follow and they often feature Jacob Marley as the main character. I have decided to go ahead and put the beginning of my Christmas book idea in this collection and possibly as it is written is where I should leave it. It is titled, "The Fourth Ghost" Some of the other stories that are included, The Path of Faith, Solitary Waltz, and To Live for Hope, are themes that I considered putting right into the middle of the main story with Scrooge and Marley acting as onlookers, like Dickens did in the original classic. I tried using other contrivances to complete the story. Unfortunately, each way I tried left me feeling it was just too complicated and did not bring out the simple result I wanted. Hats off to Dickens for that. Writer's block for me. Perhaps I will finish it someday.
So here we are with a book I have titled The Ghosts of Winter, leaving each of the ten stories to stand on its own, There is the soldier in 4 Ante Meridiem written in honor of those forgotten fallen heroes and veterans of the Viet Nam war. The old cowboy in A Shoe in the Road whose inner ghosts and late life dementia continually haunt him. An evil miser and equally rotten housemaid who get what they deserve in The Dust Bunny. The same can be said for the selfish character in Flame Flicker Flame. The Double Walker came from an idea inspired by my daughter, Crystal, who teaches college level English. Finally, I wanted to do some sort of aviation story because I love airplanes and once received a pilot's license. That's where I came up with Two Zero Six Three Lima, the actual numbers on one of the planes I learned in, a two seat Beechcraft Sport. Sadly, the story idea came from a fatal crash suffered by two boys from the town I grew up in.
I hope these tales are as fun for you to read as they were for me to write.
