This was a good read. The h/h both have very complex personalities, but I began to understand them a little toward the end of the book. However, what I did not understand is why they waited til the end to declare their love for one another; I understand they had lots of pride, but that was ridiculous. Had it not been for that, I would have given this book a five star rating. I understand why the hero had an affair with another woman after The Battle of Hastings, it was a horrid battle, which left the warriors emotionally bereft with the loss of many of their fellow warriors and the witnessing of the blood and carnage afterwards, made him seek out emotional comfort in a woman's arms; that is understandable to me, although I don't condone unfaithful behavior, in all fairness, he was not a married man, he was betrothed to the heroine. I would recommend this read and am looking forward to reading the rest of this series.Product details

Fatal Truths The Anarchy Medieval Romance Book 2 edition by Anna Markland Romance eBooks Reviews
I enjoyed this book as I do like the way Anna Markland writes. It is a love story but the love story isn't the only interesting story that happens, there are the political intrigues and the stories of the varied family members. I have read most of the stories of the Montbryce family so it's nice to read the stories of the descendants of Ram, Antoine and Hugh de Montbryce. I liked how Gallien and Peridotte's love story develops through the years. Gallien was a bit hard-hearted and cold towards Peridotte but at least Peridotte wasn't a weepy, clingy heroine. I finished the book in one sitting as I couldn't wait to see how they ended up with their Happy Ever After.
Ms Marklund's CONQUERING PASSION covers a span of over ten years and is rich in details of 11th century England. Her portrayal of the historic combatants for the crown of England is even-handed. The author shows the reader how each historical figure felt they were in the right in their claim to the throne. None are depicted as perfect or evil, but as real men fighting for what they believed was right. At times the history overshadowed the romance, but since I found Ms Marklund's descriptions of the politics and battles fascinating I didn't object to the side trips.
Mabelle, a strong heroine, is more than a match for her warrior hero, Ram. The passion quickly flares between them, but both are reluctant to admit to their love. Only through trials and tragedy do they finally realize that they can no longer deny what their hearts have always known - love conquers all.
There's also a secondary romance later in the story between two secondary characters who I felt deserved their own book or novella.
Lovers of medieval romance, and English history during the time of King William the Conqueror will enjoy CONQUERING PASSION.
I didn't want it to end. This tale is like a beautifully woven tapestry of history, political intrigue, and romance. Both writing and editing is top-notch and the story really grabs your attention and holds it through the entire book. No sagging middle here, there's no time and so much going on. Heroine Peridot is a refreshing mix of innocence, curiosity, and bravado and Hero Gallien is an understandably cynical, jaded, warrior. I loved the subtle details and nuances that made the historical aspect believable while still highlighting the romance as the focus of the book. This book is probably the best 99 cents I ever spent and I'm going to go back and download the rest of the series.
Gallien had been married before but after his wife died having her lover's child. He swore he would never wed again. Peridotite dePontrouge was a lady in waiting at the palace. She was in love with Geoffrey Plantagenet. He instead married Maud the daughter of the king of England. Peri was too pretty to stay around Geoffrey so his wife wanted her gone. A marriage is then arranged and performed between Peri and Gallien both did not want this wedding. He at times was hurtful towards her and did not trust her. I think the author has a wonderful way with words.you want to keep reading to see if he will take a second chance at love .She also has to forget her old love and accept him as her lover and husband. They also have periods of separation when he goes to war. I have read three other books by her and liked them as well.
to her she still liked Geoffrey.
I couldn't stop reading, finished at 3 a.m. The Author presents a beautiful tale true to its time period. The characters are engaging and very human - they aren't cardboard cutouts, they both have flaws that aren't pretty. Heroine Mabelle is a bit more willful and opinionated than she should be and Hero Ram is not the perfect obedient son his father thinks he is. Set in a time of war and political posturing (1066), treachery abounds in this plot and both Ram and Mabelle must be on their toes at all times. So why didn't I give it 5 stars? There is a little purple prose that made me cringe, Ram and Mabelle are apart for much of the novel (it takes place over 10 years), both H and h know they love each other long before they can say it out loud and it bothered me that even after marriage and children they had such a hard time saying it to each other, and, lastly, I have to admit some of the battle scenes first confused and then bored me. I actually Googled a map of the area mentioned just to see if I could understand it better (it didn't help much). I'm buying the next in the series and highly recommend it to anyone.
First I fell in love with the cover (the other cover)... then I fell in love with the characters. An excellent book that draws you into the story to the point of where you're standing on the sidelines screaming, "don't do it, don't do it" lol. I needed a tissue or two as well, but an excellent book/audio ebook with excellent writing. I will say I probably wouldn't have bought it with this particular cover though, so I'm glad whom ever changed it. Gary furlong did an excellent job on the audio version which I listened to first so I'd know the correct pronunciation of some of the names. I love listening to the different dialects which he does so well. I'd easily recommend this one to my friends. I'm early awaiting the next one. Hopefully there will be a following audio book.
